Setting up GameBase Amiga

Make sure WinUAE is setup (if you didn't already do it as GameBase loaded), if you for some reason cancelled the wizard or something went wrong, simply go to the menu and choose GEMUS > Emulator Setup Wizard

Setup your options (Tools > Options)

Setup your paths (Tools > Paths). Games you will have to find yourself, although it's highly likely someone (not the GB Amiga team) will end up putting the Games on eMule or some other p2p network.

Other files like the Screenshots, music and extras can be found at http://gbamiga.elowar.com It's recommended you keep these files outside of the GameBase or GameBase Amiga directory, but you can put the directory for them anywhere you like, but each type of file should go in it's own subfolder eg.

·         C:\GBAmiga Files\Games

·         C:\GBAmiga Files\Screenshots

·         C:\GBAmiga Files\Music

·         C:\GBAmiga Files\Extras

Tell GameBase which files you have (Tools > Verify Available Files)

Games will be played using the first emulator listed in the menu > GEMUS, so if it says WinUAE Joystick then WinUAE will expect you to be using a real joystick, if it says Keyboard B it will expect keyboard layout B etc. If you go to the menu > GEMUS and click manage emulators you can delete unwanted choices or rearrange the order. GameBase will always use the first listed emulator option as the default. However if you generally use a joystick but prefer keyboard layout b for a particular game then instead of clicking on play game you can right click on play game and choose which emulator option to use to load the game.

Pictures and text files are loaded with whatever your associated windows program for these extensions are. So it's recommended you have pictures associated with a lightweight program such as ACDSee or Irfanview and not a heavyweight program like PSP or Photoshop and .txt should be associated with a program like notepad rather than Word.

For Music support you need to install DeliPlayer which can be downloaded from http://www.deliplayer.com/ It's recommended you download v2.50 public beta 1

CMP and RC Dats for the games and the kickstarts can be found at http://gbamiga.elowar.com and instructions on how to use them will be found in their archives.

WHDLoad Support

With this new release (v2.0) there is now support for over 2200 WHDLoad games. WHDLoad in case you didn't know is an amiga program that allows games to be installed to Harddisk even if they were never designed to be instaled in the first place. It also enables these games to work on a variety of different amigas and is an amazing program that deserves your support. You can find out more about WHDLoad at it's official page http://www.whdload.de/

What this means for GameBase Amiga/emulator users is a load more playable games, that are generally more reliable than using adf's and are also quicker to load and don't require any disk swapping!

To make sure WHDLoad support works you need to download the readymade installs by KillerGorilla, you can download these from http://guildserver.co.uk/kgwhd/

The packs should be unzipped, but each individual game should be left zipped, they also need to be in your Extras\WHDLoad directory, but it's entirely up to you where you want your Extras directory located.

A directory that is used by WinUAE as a HD has been provided for use with WHDLoad games, this contains the bare essentials that are needed to get it to work, you will also need kickstart images on the HD for some games, but these you must obtain yourself, a good guide about WHDLoad can be found at http://wiki.abime.net/amiga:whdload_faq_by_codyjarrett

Some games also require you to register WHDLoad, which I really recommend you to do as it is an excellent program and deservers your support! http://www.whdload.de/reg.html

To run the WHDLoad games, simply choose a game from the Playble WHDLoad list, and click the WHDLoad button under extras for that game. GameBase will then load a special program called WHDRun which will unzip the game into it's own directory, and WinUAE will mount the game directory as a second drive WinUAE will boot up and automatically load the chosen game.

The WHDRun program is very clever and watches the game directory, if files are changed or added (i.e. savegames or highscores) it will zip these new/changed files into a seperate zip.

So the next time you play the game, it will unzip both zips making sure you're savegames are kept intact but without modifying the original game zip.

Please note that for saves to remain working properly you should quit whdload, rather than quit winuae, to do this press the * key on your numberpad, and thanks to a special program, quitting whdload will also quit winuae.
